Who runs this, and why

UNTRAPD is a solo-built project with no team and no VC. Here's what it actually is, and how to check our work.

The short version

UNTRAPD is run by its founder, Davis — one person, no team, no investors. It started in November 2025 for a specific reason: the gap between "I lost my phone" and "someone found my phone but couldn't reach me" was bigger than any single app could close. Most found phones are never returned — not because finders are dishonest, but because a locked phone gives an honest finder no way to contact the owner.

Two layers: a product, and the thinking behind it

The product layer is FINDERR — a free Android app that turns your lockscreen into an emergency contact card with a QR code, remotely activated from any browser the moment you realise the phone is gone. Install it, set it up in about two minutes, and forget about it until you need it. (A direct-download flavour with SMS activation also lives on this site, gated by active Protection.)

The community layer is most of what you'll read here — the finder-first paradigm essay, the security guides, the city notes, the lost-phone counselor. Phone recovery is a design problem and a behavioural problem stacked on each other; the design problem doesn't get solved by shipping more apps.

How the security content here is sourced

This isn't a credentialed security lab — it's a builder who hit a real problem and writes about it honestly. So the standard we hold is sourcing, not authority: every statistic on the data pages is tied to a named, checkable source (police and city-government figures, national crime reporting, published surveys), and where a commonly-repeated number can't be traced to a real source, we remove it rather than repeat it. If you find a claim here without a source, that's a bug — tell us and we'll fix or cut it.

See the sourcing in practice on lost-phone recovery rates and phone-theft data.

FINDERR by UNTRAPD is a free Android app on Google Play (package com.finderr.app). It is unrelated to finderr.co.uk, to Finderr.com (a freelancer marketplace), or to FindR (an iOS QR-tag app).
