What to Do, Step by Step
Don't leave the taxi yet
If you're still in the car, tell the driver immédiately. They may be able to turn around or contact the previous passenger through the ride app.
Check the lock screen
Look for any contact info, emergency message, or QR code displayed on the screen. If you see a QR code, scan it with your phone's camera — it may link directly to the owner's contact info.
Report through the ride app
If it was an Uber, open your app → Help → I found a lost item. For Lyft, go to Help → Lost & Found. For regular taxis, call the taxi company's dispatch number — it's usually on the receipt or the car's livery.
Give it to the driver
Taxi and Uber drivers can return items to their lost & found system. Leave your contact info with the driver in case the owner asks.
Post in local groups
If you've already left the taxi, post in your city's Facebook lost & found group with the approximate pickup/dropoff location and time.
Did You Know? Ride-hailing companies report that 80% of phones left in vehicles are successfully returned when reported through the app within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if the taxi already drove away?
Call the taxi company with your ride details (time, pickup/dropoff). Most companies have a lost property system. For Uber/Lyft, use the in-app lost item feature.
Should I charge the phone so the owner can call it?
Yes, keeping the phone charged helps. But use a regular wall charger, not a public USB port, to avoid potential data security issues.
The driver doesn't want to deal with it. What now?
You can take it to a police station's lost property desk, or post in local online groups. You've done the right thing by trying.
